Autumn Term 2025 – Belonging

Big Question – What can we belong to?

We sorted different picture of belonging into different categories and we realised that lots of them linked together. As a class we decided that Uniform was the most important to make people feel they belong. We found different items of uniform hidden around school and had to say we thought they belonged to and why it was important to wear uniform. e.g. fire fighter wearing fire proof clothes, police officer wearing a uniform, astronaut wearing a suit, children wearing school uniform.

We diamond ranked the uniform from most important to least important – lots of us had different opinions but we justified our answers. Oscar ‘I think an astronauts uniform is the most important because without he would not survive in space.’

Rosie ‘I think a firefighters uniform is the most important because he or she need it to protect them from fires’

We discussed as a class if we think we should have school uniform or not – most of the children said they feel happier wearing school uniform because it made them feel they belong and that they are all the same.

The children decided that they wanted to make ‘Persuasive Posters’ to encourage all children in school to wear school uniform.

The children then decided that they would plan a have a ‘Pre loved Uniform’ stall in the Christmas fete where we could sell uniform at a low price. They made a plan of what they needed to do and then sent a letter to all parents of school asking for preloved uniform. They sorted all of the uniform into different categories and then decided on a prices for each item and then made a price list to be displayed in the fete. They made invitations to invite people to the fete and their stall and put the posters around school and took them home to parents and carers. They labelled the items of clothing with ages and put price tags on them and set up their stall. We decided that we will have a ‘Pre loved uniform’ stall in every Fete and made people aware that they can buy items throughout the year.

The children then answered their big question – What can you belong to?

”You can belong to Wales because it’s where we live and where our families live.  We also speak Welsh because we live in Wales.” Oscar.

”You can belong to a school because you all wear the same uniform and that makes you fit in with everyone else. I feel proud to wear my uniform and represent my school.”  Adeline

”You can belong to different classes in school and different committees like school council, digital leaders, Criw and Eco.”  Xander

Spring Term 2025– Flip the Script

Big Question – What can we celebrate about Godre’rgraig?

We planned and organised our own Carnival. We were inspired by the Ystalyfera Rugby club Carnival on June 28th 1930. We researched different carnivals around the world and picked out the main features of Carnivals. We made a checklist of what was needed for our carnival and then planned our carnival. We decorated the classroom with decorations we had made and made masks, dancing ribbon carnival wands and hats and paraded around the school. We choreographed our own carnival dance and made carnival music with different instruments. We made Carnival games and showed the other children in the school how to play them. We had so much fun. We budgeted how much money we would need to make sure everyone had carnival food -It was lovely. We all brought a baby picture to school including all of the staff and we had a Guess the baby competition. We decided that the main entertainment would be a Talent Show where we would all show off our Talents because we are all very talented. We were brilliant and we had the best day.
