Outdoor/ Indoor Learning

Sir John “Kyffin” Williams, was a Welsh landscape painter who is widely regarded as the defining artist of Wales during the 20th century. Study his painting of Snowdonia (above), noting how the different shades of green are used to show perspective. Try to recreate this picture as a collage, using grass, leaves bits of fabric and torn paper .Take a picture and upload it into your Hwb account.

Problem Solving

Four Integers (Calculator challenge)

  1. Using four different integers and the x symbol make the highest possible result.      All the integers have to be used.   For example: 3, 7, 5, 1 gives 157 x 3 = 471 or 37 x 51 =1887.
  2. Now chose four other integers and make the largest result using only multiplication.
  3. What conclusions can you make?
  4. What predictions can you make about 5, 6, … digits     1, 2, 3, 4
  5. Using the digits 1, 2, 3 and 4 and +, – , x and ÷ symbols make the numbers from 1 to 30.  Each of the numbers has to be used every time, for example 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10.

Daily Do’s –

It is also important to encourage your child to keep reading and to discuss the context of the book and ask and answer related questions. These could be fiction or non-fiction texts.

Number skills are important to consolidate and in addition to using HWB and www.activelearnprimary.co.uk there are a number of activities you can do at home

e.g – Read and write whole numbers in figures and words.

– Put positive and negative numbers in order;

– Round off to nearest 10, 100 or 1000.

– Round off decimals to nearest whole number or nearest tenth

– Add/subtract any pair of two-digit numbers, including crossing 100;

– to read analogue and digital clocks and use money at home,

– to practise mental addition and subtraction at home e.g. ‘fastest gun’

– Splat!Splat! recall of times tables in and out of order

Important websites

HWB – https://hwb.gov.wales/

Pearson online (abacus Maths and rapid phonic reading books) – www.activelearnprimary.co.uk

These are the two online primary websites which are used by Godre’rgraig class teachers and children. These are the most effective for your child’s learning and will be linked to their age and ability. Your children will be familiar with these and the majority will be able to use independently after the initial set-up.

Children will need passwords and username details which have been sent via schoop.
